Every licensed home inspector must carry the proper tools, with certain tools mandated under the State Standards of Practice (SOP), N.J.A.C. 13:40-15, that inspectors MUST HAVE ON EVERY INSPECTION. We have listed those required tools by the numbers and provided options for each, along with NJAHI®’s recommendation for the tool we feel offers the greatest value. In addition, we’ve included a list of other tools recommended by NJAHI® which, while not mandated by the State SOP, help inspectors perform a more thorough inspection more easily, efficiently, and professionally — benefiting both the inspector and their client.

CAN THE “OTHER GUYS” SAY THAT?
The Home Inspector Certification Program includes a 10-week classroom training course, consisting of three classes per week for a total of 14 hours per week, amounting to 140 hours of classroom instruction. Classes are scheduled on Sundays from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (7 hours) and on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 9:30 PM (3.5 hours each evening). Attendance at all classroom training sessions is mandatory for students to complete the course. Students must attend all three classes each week to meet the program requirements.

The only way a school would know its pass/fail rate is if every student that took the NHIE from that school sent their test results to the school

Our training is conducted in a blended learning environment, where the instructor teaches from the classroom, allowing students to attend in-person at the school or participate virtually via Zoom through Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT), which is approved by the NJ Department of Education. VILT is a live, interactive training method that simulates an in-person classroom experience, enabling real-time discussions, instructor interaction, and student engagement, regardless of physical presence. This should not be confused with self-paced online training, which is not live, not instructor-led, and does not provide real-time interaction with instructors or classmates.
With an extensive collection of over 4,000 PowerPoint presentation slides, we explore modern construction materials, innovative inspection methods, and best practices in the industry. While all schools in the state of New Jersey can only teach Principles of Home Inspections: Inspections Systems and Standards, NJAHI® IS THE ONLY SCHOOL that teaches the NEW VERSION (Third Edition) created in 2018. This version encompasses thirteen (13) units, compared to the previous version from 2005 taught by the “Other Guys” which included only ten (10) units. We have also added to the course curriculum.
